Collagen does not have to mean sweet shakes, berry smoothies or another powder sitting at the back of the press.

Planet Paleo is especially good for savoury recipes because the range includes proper bone broth collagen powders as well as pure unflavoured collagen. That means you can stir it into soups, sauces, rice bowls, eggs, stews and quick lunches without making food taste like a supplement.

The trick is simple: use the bone broth products where you want savoury depth, and use Pure Collagen or Marine Collagen where you want the collagen to disappear into the recipe.

Here are easy savoury ideas using the Planet Paleo products stocked on dPharmacy.ie.

1. Golden Turmeric Chicken Rice Bowl

Use: Planet Paleo Original Bone Broth Collagen Golden Turmeric

Ingredients:

  • Cooked rice
  • Cooked chicken
  • Planet Paleo Golden Turmeric Bone Broth
  • Spinach, red pepper adn onions
  • Greek yoghurt
  • Lemon juice

How to make it:

Stir the Golden Turmeric Bone Broth into a splash of hot water to make a quick sauce. Add rice, chicken and spinach to a bowl, spoon over the sauce, then finish with yoghurt and lemon.

This is a proper warm lunch bowl. The turmeric flavour makes it feel like a light curry sauce without needing a long ingredient list. Add some chilli and garlic to spice it up.

2. Herbal Defence Winter Broth Mug

Use: Planet Paleo Original Bone Broth Collagen Herbal Defence

Ingredients:

  • Planet Paleo Herbal Defence Bone Broth
  • Hot water
  • Cooked noodles
  • Spring onion
  • Shredded chicken
  • Soy sauce

How to make it:

Mix the Herbal Defence Bone Broth with hot water. Add noodles, chicken, spring onion and a splash of soy sauce.

This is the one for cold days, busy days or “I need something warm and decent” days. It feels like a quick ramen-style broth. A totally lazy adaptation of this is to just add collagen to a pot noodle ( has been done by many a pharmacist!)

3. Cooling Herbs Creamy Courgette Soup

Use: Planet Paleo Original Bone Broth Collagen Cooling Herbs

Ingredients:

  • Courgette
  • Onion
  • Potato
  • Planet Paleo Cooling Herbs Bone Broth
  • Hot water
  • Cream or oat cream
  • Black pepper and garlic

How to make it:

Boil chopped courgette and potato until soft. Blend with Cooling Herbs Bone Broth, hot water and cream. Season with black pepper. I always feels a little bit of onion softened in butter is the magic base for all soups.

The fennel and peppermint style herbs work surprisingly well in a soft green soup. Good for a lighter lunch that still feels satisfying.

4. Ancient Mushroom Risotto Shortcut

Use: Planet Paleo Original Bone Broth Collagen Ancient Mushroom

Ingredients:

  • Microwave rice or cooked risotto rice
  • Mushrooms
  • Planet Paleo Ancient Mushroom Bone Broth
  • Parmesan
  • Butter,
  • Parsley, salt and a bucket of parmesan cheese shavings

How to make it:

Cook mushrooms in butter. Stir in the rice, Ancient Mushroom Bone Broth mixed with a little hot water, then finish with parmesan and parsley.

This gives lazy risotto energy without standing over a pot for 40 minutes. The mushroom broth makes it taste deeper and richer. The cheese is essential for happiness.

5. Original Bone Broth Mashed Potato

Use: Planet Paleo Original Bone Broth Collagen Protein

Ingredients:

  • Potatoes
  • Butter
  • Milk
  • Planet Paleo Original Bone Broth Collagen
  • Black pepper
  • Chives

How to make it:

Mash cooked potatoes with butter and milk. Stir in the Original Bone Broth Collagen while the mash is warm, then add pepper and chives.

This is a clever way to make mash more useful. It still tastes like comfort food, just with extra collagen built in.

6. Pure Collagen Scrambled Eggs

Use: Planet Paleo AO Pure Collagen 225g or 450g

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Planet Paleo Pure Collagen
  • Milk
  • Butter
  • Salt
  • Toast

How to make it:

Whisk eggs, milk and Pure Collagen together. Cook gently in butter and finish with salt and chives.

Pure Collagen is unflavoured, so it disappears into eggs. This is one of the easiest breakfast ideas for people who do not want sweet collagen drinks.

7. Marine Collagen Avocado Toast

Use: Planet Paleo AO Marine Collagen 225g or 450g

Ingredients:

  • Sourdough toast
  • Avocado
  • Planet Paleo Marine Collagen
  • Lemon juice
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Black pepper or chilli powder.

How to make it:

Mash avocado with lemon juice and Marine Collagen. Spread on toast and top with cherry tomatoes and black pepper.

Marine Collagen works best where you do not want a broth flavour. This keeps the recipe fresh, simple and very easy to repeat.

8. Beauty Collagen Tomato Gazpacho

Use: Planet Paleo Beauty Collagen

Ingredients:

  • Tomatoes
  • Red pepper
  • Cucumber
  • Planet Paleo Beauty Collagen
  • Olive oil
  • Red wine vinegar

How to make it:

Blend everything until smooth and chill before serving.

Beauty Collagen is strawberry flavoured, so do not put it in stew or eggs. But in a cold tomato and red pepper gazpacho, a small fruity edge can work. Think bright, chilled, summer soup.

9. Golden Turmeric Egg Fried Rice

Use: Planet Paleo Golden Turmeric Bone Broth

Ingredients:

  • Cooked rice
  • Eggs
  • Frozen peas
  • Planet Paleo Golden Turmeric Bone Broth
  • Spring onion
  • Soy sauce

How to make it:

Scramble the eggs in a pan. Add rice, peas and spring onion. Stir the Golden Turmeric Bone Broth into a tiny splash of hot water and mix through with soy sauce.

Fast, cheap, filling and much better than plain fried rice. The turmeric gives colour and warmth.

10. Herbal Defence Tomato Pasta Sauce

Use: Planet Paleo Herbal Defence Bone Broth

Ingredients:

  • Passata
  • Planet Paleo Herbal Defence Bone Broth
  • Garlic
  • Olive oil
  • Pasta
  • Parmesan

How to make it:

Warm garlic in olive oil, add passata and Herbal Defence Bone Broth, then simmer for a few minutes. Toss with pasta and parmesan.

The oregano, thyme and garlic in tomato sauce make you think you are a chef. This is probably one of the easiest ways to use savoury collagen without anyone noticing.

11. Cooling Herbs Cucumber Yoghurt Dip

Use: Planet Paleo Cooling Herbs Bone Broth

Ingredients:

  • Greek yoghurt
  • Grated cucumber
  • Planet Paleo Cooling Herbs Bone Broth
  • Lemon juice
  • Mint
  • Black pepper

How to make it:

Squeeze excess water from the cucumber. Stir everything together and chill.

This is like a collagen tzatziki. Use it with wraps, grilled chicken, falafels, crackers, salads, roasted veg or just with a spoon

12. Ancient Mushroom Breakfast Eggs

Use: Planet Paleo Ancient Mushroom Bone Broth

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Mushrooms
  • Planet Paleo Ancient Mushroom Bone Broth
  • Butter
  • Spinach
  • Black pepper

How to make it:

Cook mushrooms in butter, add spinach, then pour in whisked eggs mixed with Ancient Mushroom Bone Broth. Scramble gently.

Mushrooms, eggs and broth make sense together. This is a strong breakfast idea for someone who wants protein without a sweet shake.

13. Original Bone Broth Gravy

Use: Planet Paleo Original Bone Broth Collagen Protein

Ingredients:

  • Pan juices or stock
  • Planet Paleo Original Bone Broth Collagen
  • Cornflour
  • Water
  • Black pepper
  • Thyme

How to make it:

Mix cornflour with cold water. Warm the stock or pan juices, whisk in the bone broth powder, then thicken with the cornflour mix.

This turns gravy into a useful collagen add-on. Lovely with chicken, beef, roast vegetables or shepherd’s pie. It also just slips into gravey granules on a day you cant be bothered.

14. Sport Protein Savoury Recovery Porridge

Use: Planet Paleo Original Bone Broth Sport Protein Chocolate or Vanilla & Banana

Ingredients:

  • Oats
  • Water or milk
  • Planet Paleo Sport Protein
  • Peanut butter
  • Sea salt
  • Greek yoghurt

How to make it:

Cook oats, then stir in Sport Protein, peanut butter and a pinch of salt. Top with yoghurt.

This is technically sweet-savoury, but it deserves a place because it is a serious post-gym breakfast. The salt and peanut butter stop it tasting like a dessert bowl.

15. Pure Collagen Creamy Tomato Soup

Use: Planet Paleo AO Pure Collagen 225g or 450g

Ingredients:

  • Tinned tomatoes
  • Planet Paleo Pure Collagen
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Cream or oat cream
  • Basil
  • Black pepper

How to make it:

Simmer tomatoes, onion and garlic, blend, then stir in Pure Collagen and cream. Finish with basil and pepper. I also do this as a fried onion and tomatoe and eat with rice. Its what was used on a "no meat friday growing up".

Pure Collagen keeps the tomato flavour clean. It is a good option when you want collagen in food but do not want a bone broth taste.

From the Supplement Counter: Eat Your Collagen

Planet Paleo collagen is much more flexible than people think.
  • The bone broth range is the star for savoury food. Use it anywhere you would use stock, broth or seasoning. Soups, rice bowls, sauces, gravy, eggs and dips are all easy wins.
  • The pure unflavoured collagens are best when you want the collagen to disappear. Use them in eggs, mash, soup, avocado toast, tomato sauce or porridge.
  • The flavoured products are better kept for breakfasts and desserts.

That is the easiest way to make collagen a daily habit: stop waiting for the perfect routine and start adding it to food you already eat.
