Dental Pain

What do I do when I get a toothache?
The only thing you can do is go to a dentist. A toothache usually means you need a filling, extraction, or antibiotics. While you are waiting for an appointment using pain relief is your best option.
What's the best painkiller for a toothache?
Because there are many nerve endings in the mouth, the pain is often severe, and a strong painkiller, such as Nurofen Plus, is needed. Frequently, additional pain relief in the form of Difflam mouth wash (which numbs the pain), clove oil (which heats the gum so much you don't feel the pain), or a local anesthetic such as Anbesol give great relief. You can take Paracetamol along with Nurofen.

What are Mouth Ulcers
Mouth ulcers are prevalent and occur in people of all ages. They may be due to several reasons, the most likely being diet (lacking Lysine, Vitamin B, Zinc, Iron), abrasions (due to dentures/braces/brushing teeth too hard), infection, stress, and food hypersensitivities.
Lysine is a protein commonly used by the body to build and repair cells. Taking a Lysine supplement has been shown to reduce the reoccurrence of mouth ulcers.
Vitamin B12 is the vitamin most commonly lacking in people who suffer from mouth ulcers. B vitamins such as B1 (Thiamine), Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), and Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) as also linked to mouth Ulcers. For this reason, it is generally recommended to take a Vitamin B complex rather than individual B vitamin supplements.
Mouth ulcers also tend to occur in individuals who are low in Folic acid, Zinc, and Iron.
Whether your nutrient imbalances are due to poor diet or issues with absorption, using a probiotic, which balances the gut flora, will help improve your immune system and help you eat a healthier, more balanced diet.
Where is it normal to have a mouth ulcer?
Mouth ulcers generally occur on the tongue or inside the lips or cheeks. They are white or yellow in color and usually less than 1 cm in width. They can last up to 7-14 days and can be very painful and make eating difficult.
How to treat mouth ulcers?
Mouth ulcers are hard to heal because saliva contains an enzyme (amylase) that keeps breaking down the ulcer's healed surface. You need to seal off the ulcer from saliva to allow it to heal.
A great product for this is Aloclair gel and mouth wash. Both products can be used together and need to be used repeatedly as saliva keeps washing them off.
They give instant relief and speed up healing enormously.
Pain relief, such as paracetamol, can also be used when the ulcer is sore and, if very severe (i.e., when the ulcer is large or on the tip of the tongue), Solpadeine or Nurofen Plus, which contains codeine (great for pain where there are a lot of nerve endings) can make a huge difference.
What can I take for mouth ulcers that keep coming back?
Recurrent mouth ulcers can be a sign of a lacking and a supplement of L Lysine taken for three months will help stop them from coming back. A Vitamin B complex and a course of probiotics can also be of use.
When do you need to have mouth ulcers checked out?
Mouth ulcers are usually not serious, but occasionally they can be a sign or something more sinister. If there is any fever, if the mouth ulcers are painless, occur in crops of more than 5 or so, are large (i.e., bigger than 1cm across), or last longer than 3 weeks, get your self to a doctor or a pharmacist.
