Is Zooki Collagen Actually Worth It? What It Does for Skin, Hair, Nails and Joints

Zooki has been voted the UK’s Best All-Round Collagen Supplement by Expert Reviews for three years running.
Expert Reviews is one of the UK’s best-known independent review sites, with a team that has been testing and comparing consumer products since 1987.
Zooki and Your Skin
It is made for skin that is starting to look dry, dull, tired or less firm. It works by giving the body small hydrolysed collagen peptides that can be absorbed into the bloodstream. These peptides
- supply amino acids which are used to build and improve skin, hair and nails and
- trigger fibroblasts to work harder. These are the skin cells that make collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
In plain English, it helps give the skin both the building blocks and the “get working” signal it needs for firmer, smoother, better-looking skin.

Zooki for Hair and nails
Collagen gives the body glycine, proline and hydroxyproline, amino acids used around the hair follicle, nail bed and connective tissue.
Customers often choose it when hair feels thinner, nails are breaking, or skin is starting to lose its bounce.
Zooki for Joints and bones
Collagen is one of the body’s main structural proteins. It is found in cartilage, tendons, ligaments, bones and connective tissue.
For joints it works by giving your body the building blocks it needs to make and repair connective tisses AND by pushing chondrocytes to work harder. These are the cells that make cartilage.
People often buy this product for its (noticable) effects on skin but LOVE it for how it makes them feel. When you see the improvment in hair and skin it makes you wonder what its doing inside your body.
Hydrolysed Vs Non-Hydrolysed Collagen
The difference is simple:
Hydrolysed has been broken down into smaller collagen peptides and non hydrolysed has not
The big win with hydrolysed is not just that more of it can be absorbed (and used) compared with non-hydrolysed collagen.
The real win with hydrolysed is actually that hit makes your body make more collagen. It triggers skin cells (fibroblasts) and connective tissue cells (chondrocytes) to make more of the skin’s own collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
Non-hydrolysed collagen is a much larger protein, so it is harder to break down and not as useful for skin, hair and nail formulas.
Clinically Studies on Collagen
This is one of the few beauty supplements with a huge amount of clinical research behind it, with studies showing real improvements in skin hydration, elasticity and fine lines after daily use.
1. Skin elasticity
In Proksch et al. 2014, a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 69 women aged 35 to 55 took either 2.5g or 5g of specific collagen peptides daily for 8 weeks.
The collagen groups showed a much bigger improvement in skin elasticity compared with placebo. Skin looked tighter and fresher. Results were seen from around 4 weeks and were still seen at 8 weeks.
In the women over 50, the improvement was especially noticeable.

2. Dry Skin and Wrinkles
This is often one of the first things people notice when they take this supplement. Dry, flat-looking skin looks fresher and wrinkles are softened (as skin plumps).
Bolke et al. 2019 studied a drinkable collagen blend containing 2.5g peptides plus vitamin C, zinc, biotin and vitamin E. After 12 weeks, the collagen blend group had significant improvements in skin hydration compared with placebo.

3. Skin smoothness and roughness
The same Bolke et al. 2019 study also found improvements in skin roughness and density.
That is the “my skin looks smoother” effect people often describe. It is not an overnight facelift. It is more the gradual change where skin starts to look less dry, less dull and a bit more even.
Collagen Declines With Age
- From the mid-twenties, the body starts making less collagen each year.
- By around 40, production may be much lower than it was in younger skin.
- After menopause, loss can speed up sharply, especially in the skin.
UV exposure, smoking, sugar, stress and poor sleep can make this decline more visible.
This is why fine lines, dry-looking skin, joint stiffness, weaker nails and changes in hair thickness often start to show from the thirties onwards.

When Should You Start Taking Collagen?
Many people start this supplement in their late twenties or thirties.
Others start later, when they notice visible changes in skin, hair, nails or joints.
It is never too late to start. You cannot turn the clock back overnight, but you can still give the body the raw materials it needs to make better-quality structural tissue.
What Makes Zooki Collagen Special?
1. High-strength
Zooki formulas contain high-strength collagen, with options from
- 5000mg up to
- 11,000mg per serving.
This is a massive dose relative to other brands.
That 11,000mg Super Strength option is a big dose. For comparison, Zooki’s standard Marine Collagen has 5000mg, Vida Glow sachets are usually 3000mg per serving, Absolute Collagen is 8000mg, and Revive Collagen Original is 8500mg.
Vitamin C is needed to make strong collagen. It helps it hold its strong, stable shape.
2. Marine Collagen
Different types of collagen are found in different parts of the body:
- marine collagen is rich in Type I collagen.
- Type 1 is found in skin and connective tissue,
Marine collagen contains mostly type 1.
Bovine is a mix of type 1 and 3. Type 3 collagen is found in connective tissues (blood vessels, gut lining etc).So if your focus is skin Marine is probably a better choice for you.
3. Hydrolysed collagen
We covered this already but just to say with hydrolysed you absorb more and also make more collagen.
Non-hydrolysed collagen is mainly a building-block product.

4. Liposomal Collagen
The final big yahh for Zooki is that it uses liposomal delivery.
This means the active ingredients are wrapped in a phospholipid layer, a fat-like layer similar to the outside of human cells.
This protects the active ingredients, help them move through the digestive system, and make them easier for the body to take up.
So Zooki = High Strenght + Marine + Hydrolysed + Liposomal
This means
Zooki = Lots of Collagen + The type you need for skin + It works better + You absorb more of whats in product
How Long Does Marine Collagen Take to Work?
Results from studies vary but this is a realistic guide:
Skin hydration: 4 to 6 weeks
This is often the first change people notice. Skin may start to look less dry, less flat and a bit fresher.
Skin elasticity and smoother looking skin: 8 to 12 weeks
This is the firmness and bounce stage. Skin does not suddenly change, but it may start to feel less slack and look smoother with daily use.
Joint stiffness: 8 to 12 weeks
Joints usually take longer than skin. This is the benefit that surprized most people.
Nail strength: 12 to 24 weeks
Nails need time to grow out. The result people look for is nails that split less, break less and grow stronger from the base.
Hair thickness: 12 to 24 weeks
Hair takes time because of the hair-growth cycle. People may notice less breakage, shinier-looking hair or new growth, but the evidence for hair is more limited than the evidence for skin.
A good tip is to take a photo when you start. Day-to-day changes can be subtle, but photos make it easier to see what has actually changed.
