    How Magnesium Bisglycinate Works

Short Explanation: This is magnesium (Mg) bound to glycine. It is well absorbed and gentle on the stomach. Mg binds inside NMDA receptor channels and helps reduce excess calcium entry into nerve cells, calming glutamate-driven over-firing. Glycine also has a calming role in the nervous system, which makes bisglycinate a good form for sleep, stress, muscle tension and feeling wired.

    Long Explanation:

This is magnesium bound to glycine, an amino acid. It checmially looks like Mg(C₂H₄NO₂)₂ or  (Mg(glycinate)₂) .

Mg naturally carries a 2+ charge (needs to borrow two electrons to be stable), so it cannot sit on its own in a capsule. It has to attach to another ingredient, like glycine, taurine or malate, to make a stable magnesium compound the body can absorb.

    1. How it is absorbed

This is a chelated form of magnesium (Mg(glycinate)₂). Chelated means the mineral is held by another molecule. This means the Mg is attached to glycine. Because it is bound to an amino acid, it may use amino acid transport pathways in the gut, rather than relying only on the usual mineral absorption route.

This is why this form is a well-absorbed and stomach-friendly form. Glycine acts like a carrier that helps Mg get absorbed. As less of it stays in the gut it doesn't cause a harsh bowel movements (which happens with the oxide or high-dose citrate forms of Mg).

    2. How Mg Bisglycinate works in the nervous system

    Magnesium part of Mg(glycinate)₂

It helps calm nerve excitability by binding inside NMDA receptor channels. NMDA receptors are switched on by glutamate, the brain’s main excitatory chemical. These receptors are found throughout the brain and nervous system, especially in the hippocampus, cortex and amygdala.

When Mg sits in the channel, it reduces excess calcium entry into nerve cells. Calcium fires nerve cells into action. This reduction in calcium movement helps reduce glutamate-driven over-firing.

    Glycine part of Mg(glycinate)₂

    • Glycine works through glycinergic inhibitory neurotransmission, mainly via glycine receptors in the spinal cord and brainstem. When glycine binds, chloride channels open, making nerve cells less likely to fire and helping quieten nerve activity. The net efecct of this action is to relax and improve sleep quality.
    • Glycine may help sleep by acting on NMDA receptors in the brain’s body-clock area (in the suprachiasmatic nucleus). This can increase blood flow to the skin, helping the body release heat and lower core temperature slightly, which is one of the signals for deeper sleep.

So with bisglycinate, you get magnesium plus glycine. The Mg part helps reduce nerve over-firing through NMDA channels, while glycine adds a calming amino acid effect.

    3. How Magnesium Bisglycinate works in muscles

    • Mg helps muscles relax by controlling calcium movement inside muscle cells. Calcium triggers contraction by allowing actin and myosin fibres to pull together. It helps calcium move back into storage in the sarcoplasmic reticulum after contraction, so the muscle can switch off the tightening signal and relax again.
    • Bisglycinate is often used when the muscle issue is linked with stress, tension or poor sleep, because it works on both the nervous system and the muscles.

    How Magnesium Taurate Works

This is magnesium bound to taurine. Chemically it looks like Mg(C₂H₆NO₃S)₂ or Mg(taurate)₂ Taurine is amino-acid-like because:

    • it has an amino group and is made from amino acids, but
    • it is not used to build protein.

The body uses it as a free compound rather than to build proteins. It is used by the body to help control calcium movement, calm nerve signalling, balance fluid inside cells, and help heart, muscle, brain and retina cells work properly.

    1. How Taurine works in nerves

Short explanation: Taurine helps control calcium movement in muscle cells. Calcium is released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum (the calcium storage area inside muscle) through ryanodine receptors, which starts muscle contraction. Taurine helps steady this calcium release and helps calcium move back into storage after contraction, so the muscle can relax properly instead of staying twitchy or tense.

    Long explanation:

    GABA and Glycine Pathways

It calm nerve excitability by working on the brain’s GABA-A and glycine pathways. These are inhibitory neurotransmitter they make nerve cells less likely to fire too strongly. Taurine can bind to GABA-A and glycine receptors. These receptors open chloride channels. When chloride moves into the nerve cell, the inside of the cell becomes more negative. This makes it harder for the nerve cell to fire, so the signal is quietened down.

    Calcium Movement

Taurine also helps control calcium movement in nerve cells. Calcium is one of the signals that makes nerve cells fire and release neurotransmitters. By helping limit excess calcium movement, taurine can reduce over-excited nerve signalling.

    Magnesium and NMDA

Mg also helps reduce excitability by binding inside NMDA receptor channels and reducing excess calcium entry. So Mg(taurate)₂ gives two nerve-calming effects:

    • magnesium through NMDA channels, and
    • taurine through GABA/glycine-related calming pathways.

    2. How Magnesium Taurate works in muscles

    • Taurine helps control calcium movement in muscle cells, especially through the sarcoplasmic reticulum, the calcium storage area inside muscle. Calcium is released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum through ryanodine receptors, which starts muscle contraction. Taurine helps steady this calcium release and helps calcium move back into storage after contraction, so the muscle can relax properly instead of staying twitchy or tense.
    • Mg also balances calcium. It helps reduce excessive calcium-driven contraction and allows muscles to relax properly.

    3. How Taurine works in the heart

Taurine is concentrated in heart muscle. The heart depends on tightly controlled calcium movement because calcium helps each heartbeat contract properly. Taurine helps regulate this calcium handling, while mg helps keep electrical and muscle signalling steady.

This is why Mg(taurate)₂ is often seen as the “heart and nervous system” form of magnesium.

    How Magnesium Malate Works

Mg malate is magnesium bound to malic acid. Chemically it looks like MgC₄H₄O₅ or Mg(malate)

Malic acid is found naturally in foods such as apples. In the body, malate is part of the Krebs cycle, the energy pathway inside mitochondria (to make ATP).

Short explanation: Malate is part of the Krebs cycle, the energy pathway inside mitochondria where cells turn food into ATP. Mg is also needed to make ATP usable, because the body uses ATP as Mg-ATP. This makes Mg(malate) the more energy-focused form, useful where tiredness, muscle fatigue and low physical energy are the main issues.

    1. How Mg(malate) works in energy production

The Krebs cycle is one of the main pathways cells use to turn food into ATP. ATP is the energy type cells use.

    • Malate is converted into oxaloacetate by the enzyme malate dehydrogenase. This step helps keep the Krebs cycle moving, so the cell can keep processing fuel from carbohydrates and fats. Malate is one of the last steps in the Krebs cycle.
    • Magnesium is also needed for ATP use. The body does not really use ATP on its own. It uses Mg-ATP, where magnesium is bound to ATP. This makes ATP usable by enzymes.

So Mg(malate) has two energy effects:

    1. Malate feeds into the Krebs cycle.
    2. Mg helps ATP work once it has been made.

    2. How Malate works in muscles

Muscles need ATP (energy) to contract and relax. ATP is not only needed to tighten the muscle. It is also needed to pump calcium back into storage so the muscle can relax again.

    How Mg(malate) differs from Bisglycinate

Bisglycinate is more calming. Malate is more energy-pushing. Magnesium malate is the best “energy and muscle tiredness” form in this formula.

This does not mean malate is a stimulant. It does not work like caffeine. It is more about helping the cell’s normal energy machinery work properly.

    Difference between Types of Magnesium

    1. Bisglycinate: best for sleep, stress and tension
    2. Taurate: best for nerves, muscles and heart function
    3. Malate: best for energy, tiredness and muscle fatigue

    1. Mg Bisglycinate

This is the calming, gentle form. It is useful for sleep, stress, tension and a busy mind. It is usually the best form when people want this supplement at night or have a sensitive stomach.

    2. Mg Taurate

This is the nerve, muscle and heart form. Taurine helps control calcium movement in cells and interacts with calming nerve pathways. It is useful where muscle tension, nervous system overactivity or cardiovascular issues are part of the reason for taking this supplement.

    3. Mg Malate

This is the energy and muscle-fatigue form. Malate feeds into the Krebs cycle, the pathway cells use to make ATP. It is useful when the customer feels physically tired, heavy, flat or low in energy.

    Vitamins in Revive Magnesium Compnex

    1. Vitamin B1

Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): This helps the body use carbohydrates from food. B1 is converted into thiamine pyrophosphate, or TPP, which is used in pyruvate dehydrogenase, the step that helps move glucose into the mitochondria for energy production. Its useful when tiredness is linked to poor energy release from food.

    2. Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine): This helps the body use amino acids from protein. It is also needed to make neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and GABA. B6 is needed for both energy metabolism and normal brain signalling. It also is needed to make brain chemicals such as serotonin, dopamine and GABA. These are involved in mood, motivation, calmness and normal brain signalling.
