This Oil is steam distilled from the leaves of Viola odorata and is quite strong. Diluting it in coconut oil makes it easier to use for both diffusion and topical use. Violet leaf oil smells very different from violet flowers. Its fresh, green aroma is often compared to crushed leaves or woodland air rather than floral perfume. This essential oil is pre-diluted and supplied at 5% in coconut carrier oil rather than as a neat oil.

Uses of Atlantic Aromatics Violet Leaf Oil

    It is used forL

    • Creating a calm, fresh home or work space
    • Reducing stress during busy or overworked times
    • To increase focus and concentration with a gentle grounding effect
    • Adding to skincare to calm irritated skin.

How Atlantic Aromatics Violet Leaf Oil Works

When inhaled, violet leaf essential oil activates the nasal receptors, which send signals to the limbic system. This is the part of the brain involved in emotion, memory, and stress regulation, including areas such as the amygdala, hippocampus, and hypothalamus.

The limbic system then communicates with the autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary body functions such as heart rate, breathing, alertness, and stress response. This system includes the sympathetic nervous system, responsible for alertness and “fight or flight,” and the parasympathetic nervous system, which gives rest, digestion, and recovery.

Violet leaf oil gently acts on parasympathetic activity, reducing tension without causing drowsiness.

What Atlantic Aromatics Violet Leaf Oil Smells Like

It can be summed up as Green and watery. This oil has a very green, fresh scent that smells leafy and wet, similar to crushed green leaves or cucumber skin. It has a cool, metallic edge with watery, slightly bitter notes and a faint earthy undertone. The scent is crisp and grassy rather than floral, with a clean, sharp green finish. It's cooling and calming.

This oil is commonly used in fragrances because it adds a cool, green, watery freshness that provides structure and contrast to florals and woods, and it is featured in fragrances such as Fahrenheit, Chanel No. 19, and Balenciaga Paris.

If it were a song, it would be Open by Rhye. It's cool, clean, and airy, with a smooth transparency that feels light, modern, and quietly flowing rather than dramatic or heavy.

Who Atlantic Aromatics Violet Leaf Oil Is Best For

It is a perfect oil for:

    • People who enjoy fresh, green, nature-inspired aromas
    • Those seeking calm concentration rather than uplift or stimulation
    • People interested in aromatherapy and home-made skincare (particularly for sensitive skin)
    • Daytime or early evening use
    • Users who prefer pre-diluted oils for ease and safety (handy as you can use them straight out of the bottle)

When to Use Violet Leaf Oil With Caution

    • Pregnancy and young children (always be careful with these groups, as they have hyper-sensitive noses and can take a dislike to even the lightest of oils).
    • Skin sensitivity: Although pre-diluted, discontinue use if irritation occurs
    • Aroma sensitivity: subtle but distinctive; personal preference varies

Similar Oils to Atlantic Aromatics Violet Leaf Oil

Compared with violet flower absolute, violet leaf oil is greener and more earthy, with less sweetness. Compared with eucalyptus-type oils, it is gentler and more calming. The 5% dilution makes it easier to use (and get used to) than undiluted violet leaf oil, which is rarely used neat. It also makes it affordable.

Oils That Can Be Added to Violet Leaf Oil

This oil works well on its own. Adding other oils is optional, but popular mixes include.

    • Lavender adds to violet leaf’s calming qualities by layering floral softness, creating a balanced and soothing smell. Think spring flowers on a soft easter morning.
    • Frankincense adds depth and steadiness, grounding the fresh green notes and supporting calm focus. It’s for light meditation rather than one of the richer, deeper blends which can have almost a "Church-like" feel.
    • Bergamot introduces gentle brightness, lifting the scent while keeping its emotional balance. This is a fresh light scent idea to declutter your mind and freshen a stuffy house.
    • Cedarwood anchors the green notes with a dry, woody base, giving a more rounded and grounded scent. A blend that feels grown-up and quietly settling, like a forest on a warm day.

This product is a 5% dilution of violet leaf oil in coconut oil, used in aromatherapy for calm, relaxing and gentle skin-focused routines. It feels fresh, green and steadying.

    Diffusion
Use 1 drop in a diffuser, ideally blended with lighter floral or citrus oils such as bergamot or lavender.

Place 1 drop on a tissue and inhale gently for a few breaths.

    Topical use (always diluted)
Violet leaf oil must be diluted before skin use. Use 1 drop in 10 ml of carrier oil for adults. It is often applied to the wrists, back of the neck or chest. Avoid facial use.

    Massage and skincare blends
Used at very low levels in massage and skincare blends, violet leaf adds a clean, green note and is often included in blends designed for sensitive or easily irritated skin.

    Avoid use during pregnancy.

Do not use undiluted on the skin.

Use sparingly, as violet leaf oil is potent and can be sensitising for some people.
